Angles

Confession: I almost always spell this word incorrectly the first go ‘round. It comes out like the spiritual beings who serve as messengers for God. Huh. As I write this, maybe it’s not as incorrect/unintentional as I originally thought.

Anyway. We all have our own opinions, beliefs and interpretations (OBIs). Some of them stick to us like Gorilla Glue. Others, more like a post-it note – we take them or leave them as they suit us. It’s the beauty of being human. We get to choose how tightly or loosely we want to hold on to them.

They may come to us via familial origin, personal experiences or something we heard and gravitated toward. No matter the source, they become ours. The question then becomes, are they still serving us? Are we still benefitting from them?

And maybe it all depends on the angle from which we first laid eyes on these OBIs. Because the angle of our gaze can sometimes distort the bigger picture. So, maybe it’s time to adjust the lens, reframe the picture or simply come in at a different angle.
