The Light

Radical emotional acceptance, or REA, is a systematic way to desensitize fear of emotions. Instead of treating emotions as that which is to be avoided at all cost, they are embraced, all of them. Rather than avoiding them, we feel them fully. We get curious. We explore.
Never being a huge fan of ‘suck it up, buttercup’ or ‘fake it ‘til you make it,’ REA has you do more than grin and bear the uncomfortableness. Instead, it is accepting all your emotions, both lovely and not-so lovely – true emotional acceptance.
Affirming joy or elation is just as important as acknowledging fear or anger. Because emotions, in total, provide deep understanding of the heart’s desires, inclinations, and values that form the sense of self.
So, consider becoming less reliant on perceptions, thoughts, opinions and limiting beliefs and more trusting of that sixth sense, that mysterious, beautiful ‘Spidey-tingle’ that guides you through all ‘the feels.’ Walk towards the light of all that we humans are privileged to experience emotionally. Delight in the knowledge it provides.
