Barriers

It’s easier to believe that the barriers in our lives are put up by other people, other situations or other events. This helps to relieve us of responsibility, to some degree. And quite honestly, sometimes it really helps to push it off that way – take as little responsibility as necessary. But that is usually the exception, not the norm.

The emotional and psychological barriers that we create are usually the ones that have us underestimating our abilities. If we could remove them, then we would be getting out of our own way. Meaning, a truer perspective would help us recognize that our own thoughts and emotions are the true barriers in many cases.

So next time you find yourself unable to overcome a challenge, stop, take a step back and identify the emotion. Name it. Once recognized, you can process it with a bit more clarity. From there, get into a bit of radical acceptance, meaning accept the simple fact that obstacles are to be expected. Then, approach the challenge with your ‘wiser’ self. Your wise mind can then take over, process the information, and get creative on how to approach the challenge.
