Believe in Humanity

Updated: Nov 14, 2018

Confession time. I’m a news junkie. And the news comes from a variety of sources, because I need to hear what is being said by folks who are like me as well as folks who are not. That being said, this news junkie took a recent, small sabbatical from this particular habit.

After a week, I began to question my thought process behind removing myself from the day-to-day happenings in the world. My initial reaction was it all just felt so ‘heavy.’ This constant barrage of blame, death, chaos, polarity, destruction….coming from everywhere and everyone. So, it made sense to just walk away, even if for a little while.

But then I dug deeper, and I paused. I mean really paused. Because I had forgotten something. And it is this. I am an optimist. Even when our behavior seems to go against what we say we value. Even when we have no answers. Even when we remain enmeshed in our perceived privilege. Even when we forget our Truth. Even with all this, I believe in humanity.

So, my optimistic, humanity believing self has returned to her habit. But now I listen with different ears. Because somewhere in all this news and sharing of information and opinions is a solution. A small step. A reconciliation. A bounty of limitless possibilities.
