Boxes

These days, in the era of COVID, many of us are ordering online. Our wants and needs are delivered to our door or mailbox within days, and sometimes even hours. It really is quite amazing when you sit and think about it.

So, this had me contemplating boxes. Those hardy structures we receive which can be ‘transformed’ and used to store odds and ends, wrapped up in beautiful paper to present a gift to someone, and even recycled to create new stuff to be put in more boxes.
But what about the metaphorical box. The one that we gladly step into, allowing us to rarely think differently, or good gracious, live differently. We’ve all been there. We willingly placed ourselves in a box to protect us in some form or fashion. When we did it, we felt it appropriate because, hey, it’s comfortable and who doesn’t enjoy a bit of comfort now and then.
But, maybe it’s time to consider what we may be missing out on when we stay inside that box. Keep in mind that if you stay there too long, it can become stifling. For rarely does anyone grow inside a box.
Now, if out of the box thinking or living seems a bit too much, then how about simply lifting the lid and taking a peek outside. Soak in the sights and sounds. Enjoy the scenery for a little while.
And, who knows, from there you may be willing to step outside your box. Or even better - step on top of it to give yourself a brand-new perspective and see beyond your self-imposed boundaries.
