Can vs. Should

We all have our own superpower(s) – those unique gifts that not many within our inner circle share. Maybe you are a gifted musician. Could be that you are a #TechNerd. Or one who just knows how to organize the heck out of a space. These gifts are the things that you can do rather flawlessly. They come easy.
The question becomes, even though you have the ability, should you be the one to always “just do it.” Is it reasonable to expect yourself to play the piano at your child’s dance recital every quarter? Is it okay to get calls throughout your week when someone gets the blue screen of death? Will you be the one charged, yet again, with the annual organizing of the household closets?

Before you say ‘yes’ to a request based on your particular skill set, take a pause. Check your motivation behind potentially jumping in. And keep in mind, just because you can do something doesn’t mean you should. It could be that it’s something you absolutely should take on – or maybe it’s time to pass the torch.
