Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes

Listening to David Bowie’s song earlier this morning got me to thinking about the changes we as human beings go through. For many, change is resisted because it involves uncertainty and a lack of control, and that can be a very uncomfortable place to be. For others, they thrive in it. They love what new and exciting things change brings to their lives. Others simply try to survive it and cope as best they can.

We all know change is inevitable, but it is interesting how our responses are so varied. Why is that? Well, maybe it’s our own perceptions that we bring to the table. Because, intellectually, we all understand that change is natural and normal. But, oh how the intellect is abandoned when change comes knockin’ at our door.

So maybe it’s a matter of understanding our current veiwpoint. This could help better equip us for all the future change that is all but guaranteed to take place in our lives.

A few starter questions to get you thinking: If you fear or dislike change, what precisely is it you are afraid of or dislike? What specific feelings come up for you when you think about change? After you answer those two, decide what you want to do about it. Because we all get to choose how we want to experience change. So instead of choosing to stop the change (which you probably can’t), how about choosing how you want to deal with it.

Ah, Mr. Bowie how we do miss you. But you left a piece of you behind in your music. And we thank you. Now, sing it with me everyone – Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes….
