Oh, how we hate the setback. Honestly, they suck. They’re frustrating, annoying, demotivating, and, yes, I’ll say it again, sucky.
But we all experience them. If you’re at all human, you get plenty of practice managing setbacks. So, how do we bounce back? Here are a few thoughts:
• Redefine what ‘failure’ really means for you. Instead of focusing on what didn’t happen, look at the situation as more information to help you navigate the next go ‘round.
• Allow yourself the grace to experience the frustration, anger, sadness, etc. that comes with setbacks. But only stay there as long as it serves you to stay there.
• We’ve already heard this so many times, which means there is truth to it: It’s about the journey, not the goal. Even a less than ideal result, provides opportunity to grow and learn.
• Finally, give it another go. Maybe a smaller, baby step. But move forward, even if you are feeling a bit roughed up or out of sorts. And let’s take it a step further (pun intended) and potentially take that step on the actual day of the setback.

And let us be reminded of these words from Steve Harvey, “The setback is the setup for the comeback.”
