Defining You

There is an amazing phenomenon that happens when you decide to take off your judge’s black robe and stop sentencing others based on your personal beliefs and values. When you pay attention and call yourself out when you do it, you may realize that not judging is another way of releasing fear.
We are hard-wired to judge. It is part of our survival mode – fight or flight. But if you take a pause and look for some basic goodness in whatever person you find yourself with, it becomes easier to recognize that most are doing the best they can given their situation.
No one wakes up in the morning and says, “Today is going to be a terrific day to be a jerk.” Instead, most of us do the best we can with the resources we have available to us at the time.

Remember: Judging another does not define who they are. It defines who you are.
