Desire
There is a character in a Netflix series that asks individuals, “What is it that you truly desire?” Because of the nature of this person, you must answer truthfully – whether you want to or not.
The answers are usually not what you would expect. Rarely is anyone seeking fame, fortune, status, or power. The desires are more inward-focused in nature as opposed to outward-focused. Instead of external pleasures, they desire love, adventure, friendship, peace of mind, etc. The depths of their souls are searching for that which is very much available to them already, even if they are not aware of it.
Here’s the thing. What we truly desire usually runs deeper than material or superficial things. When someone shares they desire more money, many times it is not a longing for more stuff but more of a yearning to feel accepted or maybe more safe and secure. If another states they wish to be better looking, it could be that what they are really wanting is increased confidence. If it is a new career someone is wishing for, it’s possible they are seeking purpose as opposed to a new job title.

More times than naught, we already have everything we need to gain what we long for. Not saying that it will always be easy or that there will not be some external barriers to figure out. But to begin the journey toward your aspirations, you must, first, know the answer to the question, “So, what is it that your heart truly desires?”
