Fact Checking

In case you’ve been living under a metaphorical rock, emotions are a part of life – all day and every day. Sadness, joy, fear, excitement, regret, surprise, and every emotion to the moon and back.
So, guess what that means – Yup! Emotions are part of our decision-making processes. And when we are making those decisions, they generally fall into 3 categories:
Incidental: These are all those lovely emotions that come into play when you are making a decision but are unrelated to the decision that is sitting in front of you.
Integral: These suckers come up around the decision at hand – fear, excitement, guilt, forgiveness, and many times so much more.

Imminent: And finally, all the emotions that you have yet to feel, but anticipate feeling once the decision is made.
So, why bring this up? Bottom line: It helps you to get clear about all the factors influencing your decision and provides a bit of a reality check on any assumptions we might be making. It’s kinda like fact checking ourselves. And fact-checking can be a powerful tool whether you are deciding what to make for dinner or whether you should accept that job out of state.
