Greatness

Muhammed Ali, Dizzy Dean, and Bear Bryant have all been attributed with the comment, “It ain’t bragging, if you can back it up.”

Now, there are some who don’t appreciate the sentiment as it is perceived as uppity, disrespectful, and/or just plain annoying. Makes sense, for sure. Especially if the speaker’s goal is to have another feel ‘less than.’

But let’s back up for a minute. If every one of us was unafraid to accept and share our greatness, humanity could be the better for it. But the key is that this is a one-two punch. First, we have to accept our greatness. Accept it without judgment or hesitation. Celebrate it, in fact. Then we need to share it, allowing everyone to benefit from our giftedness.

Whether an athlete, housekeeper, musician, rocket scientist, teacher, grandparent, or counselor. If we approach our talent as a gift that we’ve been given and then proceed to share that gift with others, then what we are really doing is celebrating the greatness within us all.

And, my goodness, we generally don’t celebrate enough. It’s a practice that is all but forgotten for many. So, go ahead, give yourself a high five, celebrate your greatness, and then be sure to share it with the world. We will all be the better for it.
