Hacks

Often, folks find themselves focusing on what they are not, as opposed to what they are not yet. A simple hack is to add the word ‘yet’ to your sentences. “I cannot” turns to “I cannot yet.” “I am not” turns to “I am not yet.” This little addition does two things: it allows you to lovingly accept where you are right now, while providing the grace to work towards where you would like to end up.

Here’s another hack to consider: When those ‘yuck’ feelings begin to take over and have you saying unkind things about yourself, press the pause button and validate (aka, normalize) the difficulty of feeling the way you do. It might sound like, “That feeling sounds incredibly uncomfortable to sit with.” Instead of being ticked off or frustrated or guilt-ridden with the feelings you are having, you are simply speaking to yourself as you might a loved one.

So, hack away, and speak to your soul with kindness, recognizing you are doing the best you can, given the day, the situation, the perceptions, etc.
