Kissing Cousins

How many times a week does the average person say, “I don’t have time.” I have no idea what the answer is, but I’m betting it is a whole lot more than most would imagine. Time is the one commodity that we can’t manipulate or buy or horde. Everyone has only 24 hours in a day and 7 days in a week. A simple Truth.

And let’s take that original question a little further. How many times are we telling another that we ‘don’t have time’ for them. Meaning, I can’t do this or that because the dishes need to be washed. Or, a long weekend away with you is out of the question because I have to catch up on some paperwork at the office. Or, well, you get the picture.

Before using time as a potential reason for not going along with another’s plans or desires, take a deep breath and reflect on how another might be perceiving what you are saying when you talk about a lack of time. Because “I don’t have time” can be the kissing cousin of “You’re not important.”
