Masks

Anyone get a load of some of the Mardi Gras floats? Absolutely breathtaking. The moving parts. The costumes. The masks. The masks were especially stunning and an art form all unto themselves. Ornate. Playful. Mysterious. It made you wonder who was behind them and if the mask was a ‘true’ representation of the person wearing it or was it a time for them to live into their alter-ego. Either way. It works.

Part of the reality of being human is the mask-wearing we do each day. Multiple masks, in fact. Depending on the situation, we will pop on a new mask in order to show the world a specific persona. An hour or two goes by, and we pop on another mask for a different persona. Very normal. As long as we are conscious of our mask-switching and it does not step in the way of healthy living.

So, what masks do you put on throughout the day? Or more specifically, what masks do you put on that represent what you want the outside world to see?

Now, ask yourself, do some of your masks represent the inside part of you? Who you ‘really’ are? If so, who in your circle gets to see these? And finally, what would it feel like to allow a few more folks to see that inside mask?
