Nametags

The “My Name Is” sticky label that you attach to your shirt or jacket (and for you radicals, your pants) is a very easy way for folks to avoid embarrassment or possible hassle. Everyone knows your name without having to ask. And if you are really fancy your nametag is on a lanyard.

Interesting thing about name tags - many of us have them ‘stuck’ to us all day long. Hmmmmm, you say? Well, it may not be our chosen or given name on the tag, but many times it can be the descriptor of how we see ourselves. Maybe it looks like Dumb, Lazy, Dull, Fearful, or Guilty. They are our advertisement to the world on how we see ourselves. They are the self-doubt we share with anyone we encounter. And let’s just put it out there – people see us the way we see ourselves.

So how about this. Instead of advertising your perceived flaws, switch it up and wear your unique gift(s) on that ‘name tag’ for the world to see. Replace the insecurity message with your personal genius. Maybe they would read Insightful, Creative, Empathetic, Wise or Compassionate. Because what we project out, many times, we get back. Sit with that one for a minute….
