No Decision is a Decision

I’ll just say it. I am surrounded by some of the most brilliant minds the world has to offer. They are smart, rational, capable, and all-around phenomenal thinkers and makers. And yet, these same individuals find themselves, at times, challenged with making a decision – even decisions that seem rather ‘simple’ (my total interpretation).

So why is that? Well, it all has to do with the big ol’ “F” word. No, not that one. It has to do with Fear.

Fear is unpredictable. It can sneak up so quickly – go unnoticed until we are in the middle of it. And one of the most common forms of fear that shows up is around decision making. It is the fear of making the wrong decision.

So, instead of making a decision that is later regretted, it feels more comfortable to make no decision at all. But realize the decision to not make a decision is actually a decision.

Something to consider when you are leaning toward making no decision: Even if you come to realize that a different decision may have suited you better, after the fact, know that you have learned from the situation. And the next time you are moving into the land of decision, you are better equipped to tackle that next tough choice.
