No Static at All

It’s almost mind-numbing the amount of noise we hear during our waking hours. With some of it, we can move to that place where we hardly hear it at all – the low pitch of a dryer, the sound of a car passing by on our neighborhood street. Then there is other noise that seems to blare so loud that we can’t avoid the sound no matter how hard we try. Think construction of a commercial building. And then there is the noise we create in our own head.
The strange thing is that the self-created noise is usually us thinking about things that have already happened or have yet to happen. And we spend a lot of time listening to this particular noise. We feel guilty for things we have said or done in the past. We fear something that may/will happen in the future. We put so much pressure on ourselves by being self-critical and self-analyzing – to the point that it becomes emotionally and mentally harmful.
So how do we eliminate some of the chatter. One way is to simply laugh. Kinda hard to worry or fret when you giggle, chuckle or snort. Another way. Simply breathe. You don’t have to be a Buddhist monk to simply stop and breathe with purpose.

So, when life gets too ‘noisy,’ it’s time for you to tune into your own station – however you choose. Because in that place, there is no static.
