Non-Negotiables

When speaking of non-negotiables, as it relates to our personal lives, they are the rules that we have set up for ourselves that can not be adjusted. They are firmly established, and we live by them. When we say something like, “I will NEVER/ALWAYS [fill in the blank],” that is your non-negotiable. The line you will not allow yourself or possibly others to cross.
Our non-negotiables can serve to protect us in some shape or form. As an example, not working on a weekend may be non-negotiable. Or being sure to get physical exercise 5 days a week may be non-negotiable. Maybe you’ve decided to never date a co-worker.

But something to keep in mind - Because some of our non-negotiables came at a time when we were in need of a bit of protection, they may no longer be serving us. So, it may be useful to reassess them and see if they are still required. If they are, keep on keepin’ on. If they are not, it may be time to adjust them or even abandon them.
