Opinions

We are just entering the last month of the most curious of years. To abstain from an opinion on the comings and goings of 2020 would be almost unthinkable. So, yes, almost all of us have opinions – some of them quite strong.

Now, here’s the thing about opinions. They are a point of view or a closely held judgment, that may or may not be based on fact or actual knowledge. As Merriam-Webster so eloquently puts it, an opinion is “a belief stronger than an impression and less strong than positive knowledge.” In other words, we hold these thoughts or voice these viewpoints, many times without solid substantiation.

The world is full of opinions. We all have them. Sometimes developed in the heat of the moment. Other times, it takes a bit more to solidify them in our minds. Either way, whether a quick flash or a slow burn, we hold fast to these views, many times refusing to release them even when they no longer serve us well.

So, the next time you find yourself of an opinionated mind, consider that developing innovative options may be a better bet than settling on fervent opinions. Who knows what we could accomplish with that shift.
