Over Humble

Most of us have heard the saying that you can have too much of a good thing. The origin comes from none other than the prolific English playwright, William Shakespeare. In the play “As You Like It,” written around 1600, Rosalind asks her love interest, Orlando, “Why then, can someone desire too much of a good thing?”

So why the lesson on Shakespeare? Well it’s not really, but it does get you thinking. Specifically, why are we tempted to over humble those things we do so well.

Many think their gifts are not worthy because they come so easy. We poo-poo them as well as the ones who recognize our talent. But remember, by doing this we are not only doing a disservice to ourselves, but we may be taking away joy from the giver of the compliment.
