Satisficetion (Yes, you read the title correctly)

When we are making a decision, it’s usually because we have a vested interest in the outcome of the decision. And here’s something to keep in mind - Caring about the outcome is a double-edged sword.

Here’s the thing: When we are attached to an outcome, it serves as a strong motivator, but it also opens us up to be disappointed if the result we were hoping for doesn’t come to fruition.

So, what if there was a way to make a decision but not get so invested in the results that come about because of that decision? Well, that, my friends, is where satisficetion comes into play. Now, I can’t take credit for this fabulous word, as younger and hipper folks have created it, but it may prove helpful here.

To satisfice is to be cool with ‘good enough.’ You are not seeking perfection. Instead, you are looking for the sweet spot between satisfaction and sufficient. And that may be just what is needed in some situations where you are looking for a decision to be made. Put another way, it is identifying a satisfactory resolution for a more reality-based world (as opposed to an ideal world).

So yes, you can get satificetion in those days when you “Can’t Get No Satisfaction,” in the words of The Stones.
