Shining Lights

I have recently witnessed several instances of individuals downplaying what they bring to the table – enough so that I’m taking it as a sign from the Universe who is apparently seeking my attention. And, so in response, I will simply write.

So, what has caught my ear lately is folks downplaying who they are or what they do. They may do it so as not to be seen as lacking humility. Others may do it because they are uncomfortable with the attention. And yet others have been ‘taught’ to do this because they were told that what they offer is not worthy.

Here’s the thing. Each of us is an extremely unique individual. We are a once in a lifetime, never before seen, extraordinary creation. And with that comes our own unique set of skills, gifts, talents, and possibilities. Folks – we already have plenty of copy-cats and followers. What the world truly needs is your exceptionality. Share it with pride. No need to be bashful.

Next time you consider dimming your light because someone else is having difficulty shining theirs. Or you don’t believe it warranted. Stop yourself. Go ahead and shine. Because if your light is shining too bright, others can simply put on their shades. And besides, your brightness may be just what they need to shine a bit themselves.
