Slack Tide

There is a brief period of time where the turn of the tide produces little horizontal motion of tidal water. It is a fleeting period of pause. That sweet spot, so to speak, where there is no discernable flow. The water is not at a standstill. The tide has not stopped. It has simply slowed down. Really slowed down. For about 3 hours, give or take, movement in and out of bays, harbors, and estuaries go quiet. This tide is known as slack tide.
The word slack generally isn’t seen in a positive light. Just think Slacker or Slackjaw. But maybe it’s time for a reframe of this word. Instead, be inspired by the slack tide and simply go quiet, whatever that means for you.

Take in the beauty of the stilled mind and peaceful heart. Give yourself room to dream. Enjoy the sights and sounds that can be taken for granted. Take a cue from nature. Be.
