Sweet Compromise - Part 1

Compromise, according to the ever-knowing Google is, “settling a dispute by mutual concession.” But what if the mutual concession is between you and yourself?

Here’s the thought behind that wackiness. What if, before you approach another with a situation, issue or disagreement – what if, you settled on an internal compromise first. In other words, what if you had a bit of self-dialogue and made a compromise with yourself first and then presented that new position to the other individual or group?

And, let’s get even crazier, what if the other individual or group did the same thing? This would have each of you entering the conversation already having conceded a little – with the understanding that each of you did this in good faith. It makes compromise a little closer before you even begin the conversation.

A parent approaching a teen. A manager approaching staff. A sibling approaching a sibling. A community approaching a government entity. The possibilities are limitless.
