The Wave

A wave can be the going back and forth of our hands (hello, friend). A flutter because of a change in air current (think flags in the breeze). Or raised mass of water (like ocean tides). Any way we look at it, a wave involves peaks and dips, crests and troughs, motion back and forth. It is movement.

As in our lives, everything we experience involves highs and lows. Sometimes it is those mountain-top highs that we wish could go on forever. Other times the lows feel so low that we can’t imagine dragging ourselves out of the ‘pit.’ So, our experiences are movement, just like the wave – or maybe, better yet, they are cyclical.

Here’s the thing about waves/cycles:

1. What goes up, must come down. And what comes down, must come back up. It’s a giant balancing act.

2. Lows can make you feel stuck or useless or a number of other yucky things, but during the lows you are building potential energy.

3. Thus, making lows a necessary part of life. Without the lows, your energy would eventually run out. You can’t keep going and going and going (#EnergizerBunny).

4. And here’s the intriguing part, the lows are what allow you to reach the highest of highs a little further down the road. Y

ou are a limited resource, and the lows can build the energy level you need to reach those peak experiences.

So, the optimal way to get through the lows is to simply feel them. Be all in. The sooner you lean into them, the more likely you will move through them faster and get to the highs – and the cycle continues. The
